Resolved Question: Is there any hope for a new Disney Renaissance?
I am doing an extended project dissertation, and I'm doing it on the Disney Renaissance, how it all went wrong in the turn of the decade, and the possibility of a new Renaissance. It interests me because, being born in 1993, all of the latter Renaissance films (i.e. Hercules, Mulan and Tarzan) are a huge part of my childhood, as are classics like The Lion King, Lady and the Tramp and 101 Dalmatians. I adored Tarzan when I saw it in the cinema when I was 6, was so looking forward to the next good Disney like a kid does, and yet, it never really came. Dinosaur was bad, Emperors New Groove was funny but still pretty bad, Atlantis was disappointing, Treasure Planet was even more disappointing, Brother Bear fell flat, Lilo and Stitch was cute but overrated, and, as for Home on the Range, well, it's probably best I don't go there..... Tarzan and The Lion King are my favourite films, and Tarzan came out when I was 6 years old. If you got most kids in my year to list their fave 5 Disney's, many of them will have Tarzan on it. Similary, my sister's favourite is Monsters Inc. She was born in 1995, so therefore was 6 when it was released. I know using only me and my sister is probably a bad example, but do you think at the age of 5-6 you are most impressionable. Do you love the film now that came out when you were that age? My second question is that do you think there will be a new Renaissance. I have yet to see Princess and the Frog but I have heard good things. Do you think that this is Disney's intention? I met this girl, she seemed funny and intelligent, and was quite frankly beautiful... For 2 months we went out, I took her to numerous restaurants, the cinema and she would come over and I would cook for her, I basically treated her like a princess.... Throughout the duration I knew something wasn't right and I had my doubts, but because of the things she used to say to me I gave it a chance because I thought this girl seems genuine... She once said to me, that when she ends it with a guy, she will do it nicely then completely ignore the guy as she has no interest in being friends (I missed this warning sign!!!), also one night we went to the cinema, got back to mine and she just said right I'm going home, got in her car and drove off, I then get a text saying "Film wasn't great, so what I bailed early x", I actually wanted to end it there and then but something in my head stopped me... Everytime we went out all she would do is talk about herself, I couldn't get a word in.. When she came to mine she would yawn all the time, and if I wanted to talk she would ignore me as she was engrossed in the TV, also about 20 minutes after having sex she would go home... I did all the contacting and she was take take take basically... On Valentines Day I bought her flowers and a few other little gifts, I got a card with a buddha on the front... 3 days later I found out I had a friend die at work, I told her this then 2 days later she basically ditched me by text, I've never had that done to me before and it hurt greatly, I felt worthless, I didn't deserve that... It was a lie what she said, basically she had loads going on and wanted to be alone, I'm not stupid, I know thats a lie and she didn't like me anymore, but I just felt she manipulated me into staying with her, her smile used to melt me... In the aftermath for about 3 weeks, I would text her asking to meet me to say goodbye properly, she ignored me, I told her what I thought of her 3 or 4 times when she didn't reply, I basically blamed myself and thought there was something wrong with me because of the way she went about ending it, I know she's made out I'm a weirdo to her friends, I even sent flowers to apologise for some of the things I said, when in fact I think she deserved it even though I shouldn't have wasted my energy on her afterwards, she wasn't worth it... I just don't know why I reacted so angrily in the aftermath and why my head was all over the place, did I deserve to be dumped by text??? Its made me doubt ever wanting to open up to another woman again... In texts, he calls me "lovely", "princess", "sweet cheeks", "chick" or "babe", and always ends his messages with three or four kisses, we're going to the cinema together to see a movie and then for a drink tomorrow, hes travelling 25 minutes from the next town along so it seems like hes making an effort, and hes just got back from 6 weeks volunteering in Kenya so one of his friends' is dropping him off because his car isnt on the road at the moment, and he says how much he is looking forward to it. Hello. I'm going to Manchester this Thursday and Friday with my boyfriend. We have been before, but all we did was shop and go to a restaurant (Don Giovanni's, which we loved!) I'm not much of a seamstress, but I'm wondering how one can do a jasmine costume for the upcoming disney Princess and the Frong movie in the cinema. We decided to go as a large group dressed up as many of the different movies, so now I'm looking for cheaper ways to create a princess jasmine look. Fact is, it's very rare to find actual clothes in my city. I was thinking of getting a long skirt and convert it into baggy pantaloons, though I checked in alot of clothing stores and the only ones they had that even reach further than the knees are in goth stores (and not in turquoise). Not to mention the shirt itself. XP If anyone has some links or knows some tips of tricks, let me know! I've just looked in my local paper to see what's on the cinema this week and looked in the baby name announcements and seen that some couple (i don't know them) have named their daughter Padme Alice!!! I'm writing a story set in the fictional New Jersey town of Blaire in the county of Monmouth, it is a small waterfront town which deals mainly in summertime tourism and fishing. It is considered a small town yet has an Elementary, Middle and High School, Hospital and it's own permanent fairground. There is a waterfront promenade with cafe's, stores and hotels where most of the younger people in town get their jobs. Behind that is a small shopping district and a large suburban area, the story is set in 1970 and I need names for the various places. 1. A Crab Restaurant, family oriented place with a big plastic crab on the face of the building. 2. A cheap gas station with a 50's style diner inside one of those metallic buildings with the booths and the bar. 3. A pleasant looking waterfront hotel with shuttered windows and potted plants, all the rooms have peppermints on the pillows of the beds. 4. A rather greasy spoon fast food restaurant with a clown as it's mascot, has a drive through and sells hamburgers, onion rings etc, menu very similar to Dairy Queen. 5. A sprawling country club with a spa, golf course, tennis courts and swimming pool. 6. A small funfair amongst the rocks besides the beach, away from the water. There is a small wooden roller coaster, ferris wheel, a tunnel of love, food and game stalls, a carousel, a crooked house, ghost train and a zipper ride. 7. A family owned pharmacy/drug store. 8. A seedy looking Pawn Shop. 9. A classy looking Coffee Shop with dark leather seats and black and white photography on the walls. 10. A tavern with an inn above, pool tables and a juke box, is known for attracting bikers. 11. The town hall where they hold meetings, have theatre plays and host talent shows and the local beauty pageant "Blaire Teen Princess". 12. A rather pleasant looking, but slightly run down cinema with 3 screen rooms and a big awning with the magnetic letters on a white board, usually shows matinee. 13. A big drive in cinema on the edge of town which shows horror and sci fi flicks, a popular haunt for teens. 14. A pizzaria with white, green and red tiled walls and a pinball machine up front, the owner is a friendly yet slightly unkempt Italian. 15. A little club with a open mic stage for karaoke, poetry and stand up comedy. Sells hard liqour and the menu mainly consists of seafood. 16. A hardware store, slightly big and has a large parking lot. The owner has a shotgun in his office and has a penchant for making sure teenagers stay out of trouble. 17. A small nightclub on the water front with a bright and zany interior and a dance floor, a mirror ball and a stage for up and coming bands. Owned by a woman called Pinky with pink hair.
