Embassy Cinema Questions and Answers

Resolved Question: Iraq. Who says the US is finished there even after suposed last drawdown?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> and so here we are. Our economy suffering as it hasn't since the Great Depression.....and yet our government is wiling to spend spend spend, and keep troops mercenaries and our own brand of terrorists in a land not their own. How pathetic. APP August 2010 The Stats on the US Embassy The 104-acre compound, bigger than the Vatican and about the size of 80 football fields, boasts 21 buildings, a commissary, cinema, retail and shopping areas, restaurants, schools, a fire station, power and water treatment plants, as well as telecommunications and wastewater treatment facilities. The compound is six times larger than the United Nations compound in New York, and two-thirds the size of the National Mall in Washington. It has space for 1,000 employees with six apartment blocks and is 10 times larger than any other U.S. embassy. “The presence of a massive U.S. embassy— by far the largest in the world — co-located in the Green Zone with the Iraqi government is seen by Iraqis as an indication of who actually exercises power in their country,” the International Crisis Group, a European-based research group, said in 2006. “The idea of an embassy this huge, this costly, and this isolated from events taking place outside its walls is not necessarily a cause for celebration,” architectural historian Jane Loeffler wrote in Foreign Affairs in 2007. “Traditionally, at least, embassies were designed to further interaction with the community in which they were built,” she wrote. “Although the U.S. Government regularly proclaims confidence in Iraq’s democratic future, the U.S. has designed an embassy that conveys no confidence in Iraqis and little hope for their future. Instead, the U.S. has built a fortress capable of sustaining a massive, long-term presence in the face of continued violence.” >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> bothers you doesn't it The US did not win and never will=== either in Iraq or Afghanistan  more

Resolved Question: Is it true that 70% of the Israelis killed by Arabs were civilians?

Fatalities since the outbreak of the second intifada and until operation "Cast Lead" 29.9.2000-26.12.2008 Israeli civilian losses in the Al-Aqsa Intifada West Bank 39 Gaza Strip 200 Total 239 In Israel 492 So, how many Israeli civilians were killed by Palestinian Arabs? 239+492= 731 And how many Israeli "security forces" were killed by Palestinian Arabs? West Bank 97 Gaza Strip 146 Total 243 In Israel 89 The total number of the Israeli “security forces” killed by the “Islamic heroes” in 8 years is 243+89= 332. The total losses of Israel in the Al-Aqsa Intifada = 1063 So, of 1063 Israelis killed, 731 were civilians. Almost 70%!!! But this is not all. I took the words “security forces” in quotation marks. Now I´ll explain, why. Anyone who was in Israel knows that there are guards in every Israeli supermarket, in every school, kindergarten, government institution, in any restaurant, café, embassy, consulate, University, at the factories, offices, electric stations, building projects…Day and night, practically everywhere you can find “shomrim”, guards. They check the bags at the entrances, ask to show documents in the Universities or public institutions, stand at the doors of the museums … Very often , they are the people well in their 50s or on the contrary, young boys – the students of the colleges or Universities who work to get money to pay for their studies or to invite their girlfriends to a cinema. And the authors of the report include them in the same category of the “Security forces” as the “Commandos” of the Sayeret Matkal, duvduvanim and the elite units of the Border troops. And if we rest the number of the killed guards from the total “giant” number of the 332 “security forces” the “brave mujaheddeens” managed to kill in 8 years… Ah, I forgot: the authors of this report are the All-Arabian sweethearts from B´Tsalem. You can find it at the B´Tsalem official site http://www.btselem.org/english/statistics/casualties.asp?sD=29&sM=09&sY=2000&eD=26&eM=12&eY=2008&filterby=event&oferet_stat=before Tron, but it is that same B´Tsalem whose as* you were going to kiss just a couple of posts ago. Why such a strange metamorphosis? Or you´re surpsied that someone bothered to open this report and sum up the numbers? Alagor, ny media are biased. But when i quote the pro- palestinian biased B´Tsalem, and it says that 70% of the Israelis killed were civilians, it means that, making the "anti-bias" correction, that the actual number will be even BIGGER, not LESS. Don´t pretend you do not understand it.  more

Resolved Question: Want to see an example of liberal and conservative media spin to the same story?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,,2093823,00.html http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,277953,00.html Maybe not "spin" but different perspective. The Guardian describes the new 104 acre American Embassy in Baghdad as a heavily fortified target for insurgents and Fox News paints this picture of a shining beacon of Americana with tree lined streets, volleyball courts, a cinema, and shopping. Either way, what are the implications of a 21 building 104 acre American Embassy called Fortress Baghdad? Looks the the U.S. is there to stay, no? I got that sense of hope from the Fox story as well. If Iraqi leaders get to understand how the complex works and the US can show them all the amenities they can have with democracy, maybe the violence will stop. Not likely though. Islam won't see it that way. bhopeful: apt name; because do you think our embassy in japan is the size of the Vatican? no. i don't know how many buildings our embassy in turkey is but its less than 21 buildings. this one is called "Fortress Baghdad."  more
